Project Chandigarh

The Project Chandigarh Collection is Phantom Hands' homage to modernist design fuelled by the making of the city of Chandigarh, the first planned city of independent India, in the 1950s. Their re-editions of the mid-century furniture created for the city follow the craftsmanship and philosophy of making that governed the first versions.
Improving upon the original designs structurally and materially, this line of furniture remains true to its original handcrafted carpentry and uses traditional joinery techniques. As in the past, the natural rattan cane used for the seats and backs of these chairs are peeled and hand woven by hand, by highly skilled weavers with generations of craft knowledge.
