Derek Welsh

Derek Welsh is a woodworker and furniture designer who lives and works in Glasgow, Scotland. He has worked with wood for over 25 years with a focus on traditional joinery and old world techniques. His seemingly elegant and simple designs employ many of these traditional techniques including deliberately exposed joinery. Derek has designed and produced bespoke interiors and furniture products for residential and commercial clients, including the iconic fashion brand Paul Smith.

Phantom Hands had the pleasure of hosting Derek in their wordshop in February 2020 with the aim of collaborating on a collection of furniture.  Derek spent several days in close dialogue with the craftspeople, as he endeavored to understand their skills and methods.  The products below are the result of that collaboration.
