Zanav Andaman Fabric Swatches
Andaman is a cotton/linen blend fabric woven in a simple Panama weave. The entire process of yarn winding, warping, denting, drawing and dyeing is done by hand. The fabric is dyed using the traditional and cumbersome vat dyeing process in which the yarn is turned manually in and out of a vat containing solubilised dyes, resulting in continuous reduction and oxidation deep into the fibre until the desired colour is achieved. The yarn picks up dye differentially, and the result is a subtle inconsistency of colour which is the hallmark of all vat dyed fabrics. The final fabric is woven on traditional power looms, the likes of which are seldom used today.
